Practice philosophy
The firm operates on a few non-negotiable principles, drawn from years of seeing how clients actually experience legal matters versus how attorneys describe them.
Clarity over jargon
If you don't understand what you signed, you can't enforce it, you can't update it, and you can't explain it to the people who will need to use it. Every document we draft is accompanied by a plain-English explanation. Every meeting ends with you understanding the next step.
Flat-fee where it makes sense
Most foundational estate plans, formations, and administrative matters are quoted as flat fees so you know the cost before you commit. Litigation, contested matters, and complex transactions are billed on a transparent hourly basis with regular updates. You will never receive a surprise bill or a runaway clock.
Boutique by design
The firm is small on purpose. There are no associates to hand off your matter to. There are no junior staff drafting documents for review. Every engagement is handled directly by Daniel, which means decisions move faster, communication is consistent, and your matter does not become someone's training assignment.
Strategic, not just procedural
It is not enough to file forms correctly. Good counsel asks why you are filing them, what alternative outcomes exist, and what the second-order consequences look like. We treat every matter as a problem to think about, not a checklist to complete.

Community and locality
The firm is based in Okemos, with primary service throughout the Lansing metro area, the Tri-County region (Ingham, Eaton, Clinton), and clients located across Michigan. Daniel is committed to the mid-Michigan community as a long-term professional home, not a launching pad. That commitment shows up in how the firm builds relationships: as a long-term resource, not a one-transaction provider.
Working with us
We meet in person at our Okemos office. Sitting down face-to-face is part of how we get matters right. An initial consultation gives us time to understand your situation and gives you time to evaluate whether we are the right firm for your matter. If we are, you receive a written engagement letter with the scope and the fee in writing before any work begins. If we are not, we will tell you who is and how to reach them.
Estate planning consultations are offered free of charge. Consultations for divorce, custody, probate, guardianship, conservatorship, tax, bankruptcy, and business matters are billed at a transparent flat fee that is quoted in advance and credited toward your engagement if you retain us.
In Daniel's words
"Most clients come to us at a moment of transition. A diagnosis. A divorce. A business sale. A death in the family. The legal questions are real, but the human questions matter more, and the best legal answer is usually the one that respects both. Our job is to handle the legal mechanics with quiet competence so the family can focus on the rest." Daniel Benson, Founder
